Tent Card!!!

Today is my oldest stepdaughter's birthday and this weekend I made this card for her!  I totally got my inspiration for this card from Sylvia F. at UK Scrappers as I used her design concept and put my own spin on it.  In fact, I used the flower from her cut file.  You can see her card and download the free cut file from here!  NOTE:  Some people are having difficulty seeing Sylvia's post at the UK Scrappers site, so here is a link to the card at her blog....hope that helps!   For my design, I used two of Miss Kate Cutables' files...."happy" and "birthday" in my design.  Everything was cut using my Silhouette Cameo.  The only other two items I used were some Recollections Pearls and a "Clear" Wink of Stella Brush tip marker!  Here are a few photos!

Thanks for stopping by to take a look............I would love to hear your comments on this one!!!

A very special "thank you"!!!

A couple of weeks ago, while looking through the Gallery of cards at Splitcoast Stampers, I came across the most beautiful water colored dragonfly card and just fell in love with it.  It was made by a very talented lady by the name of Vicky Gould.  I have a very good friend who loves dragonflies and I knew she would love this, so I proceeded to comment to Vicky how much I loved this card and how much I knew my friend would love it and asked her if she would consider selling it to me.  Well, to my utter amazement she "personal messaged" me that "no, I will not sell this to you.  Send me your address and I will mail it to you......we call that a RAK....random act of kindness."  Her kindness actually brought tears to my eyes!!!   Here is a photo of the card I'm talking about....isn't it stunning (you can visit Vicky's stunning Splitcoast Gallery here)!!

I thanked Vicky for her kindness and told her that I would be creating and sending her a "thank you" card.  It just so happened that I had come across a card that I really admired and wanted to case....you can see it if you go here and scroll down to the black and white card with the pink rose in the center. While there, please check out the rest of Ann Marie's (aka/cre8nart) blog....she is super talented!!!

Here is a photo of my case of her card.  I did not have that Spellbinders labels die, so I made my own to cut with my Cameo and I made an extra panel to go on top that I embossed with an Anna Griffin embossing folder.  I had just received my set of the Spellbinders Borderabilities Card Creator "A2 Bracket Borders One" and I decided to use four of the dies to make the "belly band".  I really, really wanted to use my Memory Box "Finn Butterfly" die for this card...but it was way too big......so I scanned a cut and made me a cut file much smaller to cut with my Cameo and I added some black flock to the body and for the vellum layer underneath I sprayed the vellum with some of my Heidi Swapp "White Color Shine"..........I really love that stuff!!!

For the inside (after opening up the two while panels), I used a "Long Stem Rose" Frantic Stamper Precision Die cut, which I cut twice, once in black and again in white and then I took the black inside pieces for the rose and leaves and inlaid them.  I designed the "Thank You" using the "Alex Brush" font, which I altered a bit, to cut with my Cameo.  The vase was cut with my Cameo too.

At this point, I would like to bring attention to a few things.  First of all, the base of this card is a "pocket" and there is a panel that slips down into the pocket where you can add your personal message and sign the card.  Ann Marie used a "belly band" on hers and I wanted to also, but I used an easel on the back of mine so that kind of created a problem.  My solution was to cut an "opening" in the "belly band" and use tiny magnets so that the card could stand up using the easel without removing the band.  The following pictures are probably like a thousand words so that you can see what I am talking about.

This was a fun card to make and I really hope I made sense of how I went about it.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me.  Thanks for stopping by!!!
